Next Game

The Silverback Gorillas will play their next game on Sunday, December the 3rd @ Collège de Rosemont @ 6:30pm against J-Corp. According to most recent information, the J-Corp team is undefeated at 3-0 and will be looking to extend their undefeated streak when they enter the home of the Silverback Gorillas ( currently 2-2 on the season; 2-0 @ home; 0-2 on the road). The Gorillas will try to remain perfect at home and will look to unleash their suffocating man to man defense on their adversaries.
Will the Gorillas be successful in the defending their home? Either make it to the game, or tune same Gorilla time & same Gorilla channel.............

Quick Thoughts

Normally, I'd would have a post ready pertaining to the game yesterday detailing what we did well, what we did wrong and how the game turned and what not. However, since it was a scrimmage more than anything, I won't really give any details about the game itself; but I will say that all the issues we faced last week failed to surface this time around ( which is a good thing). The defense stepped up and played hard but we kind of took our foot off the gas early in the game because it was a blowout; that's when we allowed our opponents to make a comeback. Nevertheless, although it wasn't our best performance and we made sevral mistake throughout the game, I liked the fact that our effort was there early in the game and hopefully that carries over into our next game.....
Time will tell

Keep coming back for more.....

Time is of the essence

Unfortunately, I have not been able to provide you the 5 on 5 simulation of the SIlverback Gorillas as of yet. However, I will work diligently this week-end to be able to provide the footage as previously stated.

On another note, the Gorillas are once again off this weekend (meaning no games) and will probably host some form of scrimmage; stay tuned, more info should be available soon.

Game Info

This weekend, the Silverback Gorillas will in fact have two games due to the bye from last week. Our first game will be on Saturday, November the 17th at 7:15pm on the road. The Gorillas will be seeking their third win of this young season. Unfortunately, they will be without the services of their leading scorer, who will miss the game due to personal reasons. Further complicating issues for the SVG, Philly will be unable to attend the game and Darrel is still questionable due to a foot injury thus leaving the front line very thin. The Gorillas however do have some good news as they are anticipating the return of Superstar Ricky who missed the last two games. While Greg and Philly's absence will decrease the overall rebounding prowess and interior defense, the return of Ricky will provide some much needed athleticism, defense, scoring and leadership. Make sure to tune in saturday night for the results from the game.

Game Recap (Nov 4th 2007)

First half
The Silverback Gorillas started their game against Olympiques playing tough man to man defense which led to low percentage shots to their opponents and several fast break oppotunities for the Gorillas (especially Greg). At the end of the first quarter, the SVB had a 20 to 12 lead. The second quarter offered a slight shift in momentum as the substitutions allowed for some starters to rest while the bench players maintained the lead midway through the quarter; the starters then returned thus allowing the Gorillas to assert their dominance on the offensive and defensive boards ( powered by Randy and Greg) which in turn led to more fastbreak opporunities. The halftime score was 42-26 in our favor.

Second half
The third quarter mirrored the first quarter perfectly: we came out a little sluggish but were still able to score inside the paint, however our defense fell asleep towards the end of the third quarter which resulted in 19 points scored for both teams and an overal score of 61-45 in favor of the Gorillas after three quarters. The fourth quarter was somewhat problematic for us due to our lack of substitution. Indeed, our defense became extremely lax and our offense turned the ball over (unofficially) 10 straight times. The lack of energy was obvious on the boards where Olympiques was able to get several offensive rebounds despite their lack of size. Although the SVG were inept offensively in the fourth quarter ( scoring only 8 points), the defense although far from perfect only surrendered 9 points thus resulting in a final score of 69-54 in favor of the Gorillas. The Gorillas are 2-1 in the season standings and hope to get better as the season progresses.
The Gorillas will hold practice on Sunday November 11th on their homecourt in an attempt to rectify the issues plaguing the team.

Injury report
*Darrel missed the game with an ankle injury and listed as questionnable
*Superstar Ricky missed his second game in a row due to his stay in Florida and should be available for the next game as the do everything small forward of the SVG

Cid Q&A

Silverback Gorillas says:
When did you start playing basketball?

Cid says:
i started in high school because at lunch time we had nothing to do except play ball outside. we had 2 full courts

Silverback Gorillas says:
When did you really become serious about basketball?

Cid says:
i think in college but and when i started to play against better players i was like damn i need to get better and serious. David Noel and Edvard Nicolas pushed me a little bit

Silverback Gorillas says:
Who had the most influence on you playing ball?

Cid says:
it's really between David Noel and Edvard for real.
David made shoot better, made me prepare for games better and Ed made understand the game as well ; plus i got my boy Shyne that teached me little things sometimes where i was like what the $%/$ is this guy saying; them i'm like this guy is right , i think Shyne should be a coach

Silverback Gorillas says:
who's your favorite NBA player ever?

Cid says:
Jordan and AI

Silverback Gorillas says:
What are your best basketball memories?( Top 3)

Cid says:
1 -My put back dunk at dexter league
2 -The game we lost in the final at dexter league with my team the mascoutes
3- my last college game i score 34 i had ten assits 5 steals 3 turnover

Silverback Gorillas says:
You mentionned Jordan and AI as your favotie players, what is it you try to take from their games and put into yours?

Cid says:
I'm more like gary payton: play hard D and trash talk lololol +
jordan is a leader

Silverback Gorillas says:
How did your You played @ cegep Andre-Grasset. How did that help your basketball skills?
Cid says:
andre grasset was cool but i could have done better but i never had a coach that developped me really. i think that's why I wasn't that good. In college we never made the playoffs. But guys like David Noel, Shyne and Edvard helped me develop more than they did in college ;but in college what i really learned was defense...... wow that's why i was a good defender back then. Now I coach kids and i understand basketball better when i watch a game; i just dont wait to see a crazy dunk or crazy play but i watch what they do, how they play d and what plays they are running

Silverback Gorillas says:
Dvd said that you are one of the most influential people to him basketlball wise. How does that make you feel?

Cid says:
Feels good. Dvd is a really good player but he's still learning just like Jay told Beanie : "I aint tryin to change you just give you some game to make the transition from the street to the fame". Dvd needs to know how to adapt to the team concept and do what the coach wants
there is a system the coach want this he msut do this but he got to be opportuniste too when he is open shoot u see a lane drive play D with ur feet dont reach get steal by int cause if u reach u miss ur coach will put u straight to the bench
Silverback Gorillas says:
When will you be back from your injury?

Cid says:
I dont really know, i'm so pissed!!!! Especially when i'm doing the scoreboard and my team and playing D (Cid does the scoreboard and scoresheet until he returns from his knee injury) . Listen i got the operation on july 19, the doctor said I would be 100% in about 6-8 weeks. It's been more then that now, before that my knee was hurting big time but i was able to dunk, able to throw the ball on the board and dunk. If you need prove ask D ,ask Qwest, ask whoever but my knee was hurting but i was able to play now my knee is hurting and i cant even run wtf... i got a
a Arthroscopic knee surgery, i'm doing rehab twice a week but yet no results
By the way im like kanye, before u put something i want a see the script before u misunderstand one word.

Silverback Gorillas says:
Aight......Thanks for your time Cid

DVD

Although DVD is not part of the Silverback Gorillas, he was part of the orignal version of the team a year ago when we played in the Big Ballerz Basketball League. Dvd Took time out of his busy schedule to fit me in betwen class and whatever it is he does on his free time . Dvd is a freshman at Bishop University and their current back up point guard. So here you have it , the Q&A with Dvd.......at the end you'll see his section of the Scouting Report(originated in summer of 2006) which is mentionned in the conversation.

Silverback Gorillas says:
What is your position of choice on the court?

*DVD says:
combo guard

Silverback Gorillas says:
I know your favorite player is Tracy McGrady, what similarities do you see in his game and yours?

*DVD says:
versatility

Silverback Gorillas says:
So tell me , where di you grow up and how did that affect you basketball wise?

*DVD says:
was in stl till 10 and it was all about soccer there....moved to Burgz where bball is the only thing happening at the park

Silverback Gorillas says:
Ever hung out with the Dope Boys from your hood?

*DVD says:
well the where at the park while I played...when the lights would go off and I aint go home right away i gues i hung out with them but only at the park are if the came to mcdonalds and I was there or sometimes they crashed a club i was at.....

Silverback Gorillas says:
coo coo
Silverback Gorillas says:
What's you biggest accomplishment in basketball?

*DVD says:
coaching my boys to a 53-1 record- and all the way to the national title game

Silverback Gorillas says:
Phenomenal achievment
Silverback Gorillas says:
and yours as a basketball player?

*DVD says:
cant say I have one that stands out

Silverback Gorillas says:
ok fair enough
Silverback Gorillas says:
You played @ Vieux-Montreal cegep; how was that experience ?

*DVD says:
I didnt learn anything there...
Silverback Gorillas says:
Why was that?

*DVD says:
played only one semester-coach was not a teacher(only did drills at practice)-AA div 2 was weak- was 2nd in the league just by scoring of off rebounds, free thrown and fast break lay-ups-
Silverback Gorillas says:
You're currently enrolled @ Bishop University and playing for their men's basketball program, how's that going?

*DVD says:
CIS basketball is no joke its the equivalent of NCAA ball in Canada...
It started slow, was very hard...but things turned around and im did the adjuments needed

right now im out for a few days with a sprained ankle

Silverback Gorillas says:
What position does coach have you play?

*DVD says:
Point Guard

Silverback Gorillas says:
Do you make enough plays at point guard for your coach to feel comfortable leaving you there for extended minutes?

*DVD says:
he gave me a lot of opportunities the 1st few games and I didnt perform so then in new brunswick I played like 6 minutes in 3 games....but then in ontarion I played 8 minutes per game and did everything right(scored-ass-reb off and def-) so they said it was my best weekend so its looking like im on the right path

Silverback Gorillas says:
Great stuff. Now here comes the juicy stuff, you ready playa?

*DVD says:
lol

Silverback Gorillas says:
Although you haven't played with the Silverback Gorillas, you played with the first version of the team, "The Dipset" @ Big Ballerz Basketball; remember that?

*DVD says:
yup

Silverback Gorillas says:
How was that experience?

*DVD says:
it was a fun experience - its hard to complain when you dont lose

Silverback Gorillas says:
Best memory from that team?

*DVD says:
getting dunked on - taught me not to underestimate my opponant

Silverback Gorillas says:
lol

*DVD says:
and your scouting report, that was jokes

Silverback Gorillas says:
I still have the mental picture of the dunk and I still have the scouting report ; I'll gladly send it to you if you want

*DVD says:
I still have
*DVD says:
dvd tries to get fouled shooting a 3 every game! LMAO

Silverback Gorillas says:
lol
Silverback Gorillas says:
Glad you remembered lol.
By the way, at some point in time, the Gorillas may still need you......would be in?

*DVD says:
of course

Silverback Gorillas says:
That's my dude.....
Here's a good question for you; who's played the biggest part in your development as a basketball player?(besides you obviously)

*DVD says:
besides me...tuff one well my present coach already has done a lot for me in a short period of time and I would say all my boys that Ive played in leagues with since I didnt go true the normal AAA leagues as a kid

*DVD says:
they kept me playing and giving me good advice too
*DVD says:
oh! AND THE MOST IMPORTANT
*DVD says:
THE HATERS!!!!!

Silverback Gorillas says:
lol. what about Cid? I heard he took you under his wing.....any truth to that?

*DVD says:
yeah Cid is my big brother on the court...he probably the person who has seen me play the most...comes to my games and sets me straight on how I played even when I didnt want to hear that and you need someone like that and im doing what he did for me to 3 kids that I watched grow up on the court

Silverback Gorillas says:
So Dvd, although the Big Ballerz League was a little weak, what happened the following year at the Edaourd-Monteptit League?

*DVD says:
ohhh geeeezzz ; hmmm my big brother cid was not on the team to have my back
joke

Silverback Gorillas says:
I see. Now I have to keep it real here, I heard you and Damon was playing like Shaq & Kobe ; the Big 2 and nothing else

DVD says:

Nah fo real I tried my best to win every game in that league but I always came up short.
My own teamates told me I was a hog and played no D ; so the next game I only passed the ball and played hard D

Cid says:
ok kobe

Silverback Gorillas says:
lol

*DVD says:
but it still wasnt enough

Silverback Gorillas says:
aight

*DVD says:
I didnt want to come anymore but I said nah I cant give up. I took a lot of that criticism to heart

Silverback Gorillas says:
Ok,gotta give you a shoutout DVD
thanks for taking the time to answer all the questions
Silverback Gorillas says:
Cuz i know it was long. When's your next game in Montreal?

*DVD says:
